Study Description
New Zealand Clinical Research is trialling PTC612 an investigational medicine that could help people with inflammatory diseases.
Inflammation is part of the body’s natural immune response to infection or injury. It is driven in part by inflammasomes, which are small “alarm systems” inside immune cells that help the body respond to infection or injury, but can also contribute to harmful inflammation if they become overactive. One specific inflammasome, called NLRP3, plays an important role in triggering inflammation by releasing proteins that signal the immune system to react. PTC612 is designed to bind to NLRP 3 inflammasomes and reduce inflammation and tissue damage, which may make it a potential treatment for inflammatory diseases. This means that other parts of the immune system are expected to remain able to respond to bacterial and viral infections while NLRP3-inflammation is reduced.
