Study Information

This study will test an investigational medication, named CT-388, which is being developed as a chronic weight management treatment for patients with obesity and patients who are overweight with weight-related conditions. In New Zealand, 1 in 3 adults live with obesity and around 1 in 20 people (5%) live with type 2 diabetes.

CT-388 works by turning on a specific signal in the body which helps regulate important processes like blood sugar levels. It does this without triggering certain side effects that can happen when other signals are also activated. By turning on this signal, it may help people manage their weight and manage their blood sugar levels.

The purpose of this study is to:

  • Compare the effects of low to high doses of CT-388 against placebo, in people who have T2D and are considered to be overweight or have obesity.
  • See how safe and well tolerated CT-388 is, in people who have T2D.
  • Measure the effect if CT-388 on your body weight.
  • Measure how CT-388 (and its byproducts) is processed and cleared by the body.

This is an investigational medicine because it has not been approved by MedSafe or other drug regulatory authorities.

This study (2025 FULL 22856) is being funded by Carmot Therapeutics, Inc and has been approved by the Health and Disability Ethics Committee.
